Before starting we need to understand as to what a Solid Surface Grill is?
Well, a solid surface grill which is also known as Acrylic Solid Surface grill is a type of grill, and its composition is that it is made out of Acrylic monomers. It is also a polymer-based product. However, the differences are explained below in great detail.
1. Composition
MPC's composition is different from that of Solid Surface Grill.
However, they are both a polymer-based product. It's just that Solid Surface is made of Acrylic Monomer and MPC is made of PVC polymer. In terms of densities, both products have different densities. Solid surface has a density ranging between 1.3 to 1.5 and MPC has a density ranging between 0.55 to 0.65. And that is differentiated because of the composition of the product.
2. Ease of Installation
The acrylic solid surface is heavy. Hence, it is not that easy to install this product.
3. Cost
The cost of acrylic solid surface is around Rs. 700 sq per feet only for the plain board, and then when we take into account CNC, it costs you about Rs. 800-900 per sq feet. When we consider the MPC Grill then, it costs you Rs. 150-250 per sq feet after its production. Well, now it's for you to judge as to which product is better. Moreover, if grills are to be installed in bulk then we will definitely use a product which is cheaper and has lots and lots of benefits associated with it. However, if there are places wherein, there is a requirement of only one or two grills and a smooth finish then you can use Acrylic Solid Surface grills there.
4. Translucent
When we talk about the translucent factor then Acrylic Solid Surface has an advantage as they are translucent. Like, if you have placed a light at the back and you want the light to trespass then it is only possible in Acrylic Solid Surface whereas MPC grills don't have these qualities.
5. Dimension.
Acrylic Solid Surface has dimensions of 2.5X10 feet in a standard length and width and comes in the standard thickness of 12mm and 6mm. Whereas Dimension becomes flexible in case of WPC as you can design the product in any length, width, and thickness. It’s very important to note that because of Dimension flexibility you don't have to compromise with the WPC Grills design at any point.
6. Fading
As we did a case study wherein we had placed an MPC grill on one side and an Acrylic Solid Surface grill on the other side in a building and it was observed that the Acrylic Solid Surface Grill fades faster than MPC grills comparatively.
7. Applications
An important aspect is that both the grills can be used in Exteriors.
However, it is recommended to use Acrylic Solid Surface in Kitchen tops and Bathroom tops. Though people do use this for making grills as its core finish is very neat and clean as compared to MPC grill since its density is high. But when you consider the cost and dimension factor then it is not at all a viable product for builders, architects, and end users as well.
