How MDF/HDF Is Different From WPC

Have you ever used MDF/HDF for crafting your furniture's and has it been destroyed, destroying your hopes and the aesthetics of your personal space? Or are you going to procure MDF/HDF fro crafting your home? Don't do it before reading this blog. This blog is all about the challenge you face while using HDF/ MDF.

1. Water Absorption Rate

If you dip MDF/HDF in water then after a few minutes you will observe that it starts swelling and expanding. Any application which contains wet areas is not meant for the installation of MDF/HDF.

2. Termite Attacks

Since HDF/MDF is made by compressing Wood chips in Compression Moulding Machines and not via the extrusion process. So, in any application wherein you think that there can be a termite attack (Well, there is hardly any location in India wherein there is no termite attack) then MDF/HDF is not at all a good product to be used.

3. Certifications

HDF/MDF is made with the use of harmful chemicals, hence it is hazardous to our health. WPC/MPC, on the other hand, have no usage of any harmful chemicals during its making. And to add to that, WPC/MPC is an IGBC and GRIHA certified product.

4. Lamination

Another big problem is that HDF/MDF comes in brown color. Moreover, HDF/MDF has to be mandatorily laminated. In the case of WPC, lamination is not mandatory.

5. Cost

Cost is a point which we all look forward to before buying the product. But it is important to note that when you calculate the cost of MDF/HDF then we need to take into consideration the charges of MDF/HDF (i.e the product), lamination, adhesive, labour cost and then compare it with WPC. also, if you take into consideration the various advantages of WPC boards you will find out that WPC is a product that you should go for.

6. Exterior/ Interior Applications

It’s fine if you are using MDF/HDF for making furniture for your office. However, if you use the same product for application in Kitchens, Wardrobes, Bathroom vanities, Exterior and Interior application etc. then MDF/HDF is not a good choice. As we all know at the back of our minds that we are using a product that could get damaged easily.
